Frequently Asked Questions

A. Prior to the development of assisted living communities, older adults had limited choices of where to live when their abilities became less than 100%. Many older adults who simply needed assistance with cooking and meals ended up moving into the medical environment of a nursing home. While this costly and often restrictive environment provided simple assistance with daily needs, residents were paying for many of the medical services found in skilled nursing homes but not using them. Unlike a skilled nursing home environment, Carriage House Assisted Living is like living in your own home, yet residents enjoy the security of knowing that the staff is available 24 hours a day. The service packages offered at Carriage House Assisted Living are designed to meet the individual needs of the residents.

A. In addition to your apartment, your monthly rent includes all of your meals, weekly laundering of your bed linens and towels, scheduled transportation to medical appointments, weekly housekeeping, 24-hour on-duty staff, and scheduled activities and outings. A complete list of other amenities and services may be found on the home page of this site and in our services package.

A. Residents who come to live at Carriage House Assisted Living generally require some kind of nonmedical assistance with daily activities. This assistance may be as simple as supplying well-balanced, home-cooked meals or scheduled daily social activities. More assistance is provided as needed. Our Carriage House Assisted Living Services Package outlines these services. Carriage House Assisted Living residents are encouraged to be independent, and every effort is made to stimulate continued socialization while providing support with the once-demanding chores and isolation of living alone.

A. The Carriage House Assisted Living is an alternative to the medical environment and cost-prohibitive aspects of a skilled nursing home. Your apartment features a kitchenette with a refrigerator and microwave, an open bathroom with a walk-in shower, skid-resistant tile and grab bars, carpeting, and individually controlled heat and air. We encourage residents to "make it their own" by furnishing with personal belongings and decor preferences

A. Our residents' personal safety is one of our main concerns. Residents can rest peacefully knowing that 24-hour staff is available seven days a week. Emergency response systems are installed in each apartment, as well as smoke and heat alarms. Daily monitoring of residents is included in basic services, and individual monitoring throughout the night may be arranged.

A. Scheduled transportation to and from medical appointments is provided within a 10-mile radius of the Carriage House Assisted Living. There is no additional charge for this service.

A. Daily activities are planned by our full-time Activities Director. Recreational and social activities are created to cater to residents' abilities and interests. In-house activities include games, music, arts and crafts, and other activities to encourage mental, emotional, and physical stimulation. Occasional outings may include day trips and special cultural events.

A. The Carriage House Assisted Living is nestled in a quiet residential community. It is less than a mile from I-35 and a short 45-minute drive from Dallas. The University of North Texas and downtown Denton are a few short blocks away. Shopping, medical facilities and area hospitals are nearby.
